Five For Friday and a SALE! - 28th March 2014

Wow I'm late for this one! Better late than never...
1. Labeling

We have been looking at Non-Fiction texts this week. On Thursday we learned about labels. We labelled our friend and then completed a simple worksheet labeling a cartoon boy.

2. Assembly

It was my turn to run our Prep Assembly this week. Boy was I nervous when I discovered the principal decided to "casually drop in to watch!"

But, it went well! My preppies sang this song so confidently and taught their peers about using helping hands instead of hurting hands.

3. Create an Ending

To get my preppies using their imaginations I showed them a video of 5 Little Ducks. But I stopped it once all 5 ducks had gone. I asked the students, "Where have all the ducks gone?"

And here are some of their responses: pool, park, beach, movies, my house, the mountain, a party!

4. Parent Teacher Interviews OVER!

Finally! This week was our Term 1 Parent Teacher Interviews. So glad they are over and I can go home at a normal time :)

5. Sale!

I know it is not Spring here in Australia, but to celebrate the upcoming Easter School Holidays I'm throwing a 20% off sale from 29th till the 31st March!

Next time I check in I will officially be on Easter School Holidays for 2 weeks! Yay!

Till next time,

Five for Friday - 7th March 2014

Here's a round up of some of the different literacy activities we did this week.

1.  Wheels On The Bus

This week I read the class Wheels on a Bus by Kate Toms. I followed Deanna Jump's  blog post to illustrate how we could change the story by inserting our name and the initial sound of our name. Then I used this freebie, so the students could each make their own page for a class book (which I hole punched and put in a binder folder). They loved it - thanks Deanna!

2. Rosie's Walk

We are focusing on the letter R and H this week. So for the letter R we read Rosie's Walk by Pat Hutchins. We then sequenced the story in pairs using visuals from SparkleBox, retold the story to each other and watched the School Tube Video to check our work. It was a solid 20 mins of fully engaged students :)

3.  Helping Hands

For the letter H we talked about helping hands not hurting hands (something we really need to work on!). We brainstormed how to have helping hands and then traced and cut out a handprint and wrote our name in the middle. I drew a heart outline on a piece of card and let them glue their hands wherever they wanted to. I don't have a picture of the finished product but seeing as the original idea came from Pinterest. Here was my inspiration:

4. Magnetic Letters CVC

I pulled out this activity again - it is always a favourite.

5. Introduced Sight Words!

We introduced the Gold List of the Magic 100 Sight Word's this week. It is amazing to think that not long now and they will be reading simple text! So exciting.

Till next time,

Stay Joyful!

March Currently

Is it just me or is this year really flying by?

I'm linking up with Farley for March Currently:

Listening - I've just woken up so the birds are out singing.

Loving - Lately I feel like I am running an uphill battle through the week and then collapse in exhaustion every weekend. I have a very high maintenance class this year - it takes a lot out of you!

Thinking - Today we head to my parents for my brothers birthday. It is also my brother in law's birthday soon and at the end of the month - it's our 2nd yr wedding anniversary!!!!! Wow  - 2 years have flown by!!!

Wanting - This one is self explanatory. I want more time to work on TPT, this blog, sew some clothes, read and the list goes on.

Needing - A lot of my work clothes are getting old and faded now. Need to go get some new ones (or sew some new ones).

????? - What is the question? The answer is: socks. Put your guesses in the comments!

Till next time,

Stay joyful
